Melbourne: Mike Hussey will miss the India tour with a hamstring injury, while Queensland all-rounder James Hopes will replace injured Shane Watson, Cricket Australia said here on Sunday. Hussey became the third Australian, after Watson and Ricky Ponting, to pick up a hamstring injury in the ongoing Twenty20 World championship. While Watson has been altogether ruled out of the tour, Ponting will travel with the side even though he would miss at least the first two games of the seven-match ODI series. Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said the nature and timing of Hussey’s injury would rule him out of contention for the tour of India. “Hussey has strained his left hamstring and that will keep him out of the Indian series. He will continue to be assessed over the next 48 hours in South Africa before returning home to continue his rehabilitation,” Kountouris said. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
