Four held on extortion charge

GUNTUR: Two persons who allegedly tried to extort money from a land owner near Piduguralla in the garb of Maoists were trapped by the Guntur police.

Four persons were arrested in the connection. When Avula Bhaskara Reddy who sold 13-acre land to Satyanarayana, refused to hand over the registration papers to the latter even after paying advance, the latter contacted T. Nagalur, K. Yacob and Sk. Sambaiah to settle the dispute. They hatched a conspiracy of extorting money from Mr. Appi Reddy in the guise of Maoists.

They threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to give the amount or informed the police.
