Women in handloom weaving households will be selected for sartorial training CHENNIMALAI: Children of handloom weavers will be selected for employment-related training, Commissioner for Handlooms and Textiles, M. R. Mohan has said. Addressing weavers of The Chennimalai Industrial Weavers’ Cooperative Society during a visit here on Thursday he said the youth would be trained in industrial training institutes as machine operators and skilled labourers for employment in factories. InfrastructureIn executing the project the State Government would join hands with the Southern India Mills’ Association, Tirupur Exporters’ Association and Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services company. Similarly, the women in handloom weaving households would be selected for sartorial training, so that they could be employed in garment manufacturing industries or work at houses. Ten thousand women would be trained, he added. Initiate actionEarlier after listening to weavers’ grievances, Mr. Mohan promised to initiate action so that the handloom weavers’ societies were cable of exporting directly without being dependent on exporters in Karur. On the health insurance and education assistance schemes the weavers highlighted their grievances, to which he said he would rectify the anomalies. Assistant Director of Handlooms, Erode, S.
