Andhra Pradesh
The classification of Scheduled Castes was cancelled long ago. But still, some MROs are issuing SC certificates with classification. Such certificates are invalid. However, e-Seva centres’ staff are also insisting on writing classification in the applications submitted through them for SC certificates. This is causing difficulty to SCs. We appeal to the district administration to resolve the issue. S. Appa Rao Visakhapatnam Stop the blame gameDubbing the retired Vigilance Commissioner Ramachandra Samal as ‘insane’ is most unfortunate. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister should immediately restrain all those talking ill about an upright IAS officer, as it is unpalatable. Corruption is known to exist throughout India and Andhra Pradesh is no exception. The blame game should stop immediately and the government should make amends as a face-saving exercise. Young upright IAS officers of AP cadre should take up cudgels against their own colleagues who are slinging mud on Samal (like their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, who exposed their own superiors) and strive for an egalitarian society. It is surprising and shocking that the IAS officers’ association did not react openly against the insults heaped against Mr. Samal who is also an IAS officer. Kasturi Tallamraju Visakhapatnam Open the entry pointIn a bid to give the Visakhapatnam railway station a facelift and a new look, the authorities have thought it fit to close the direct entry on the road to enter the Railway station and as such the passengers are put to inconvenience. People have to travel up to Rail over bridge and take a turn to reach the station. The rationale in closing the entry point is not understandable, more so when importance has to be given to passengers going to the station and the road primarily catering the Railway station. Further, with the exit gate of the Railway station changed, there would be no chaos and as such it is high time the authorities concerned take a decision to re-open the entry point to the Railway Station at the earliest. The opening is essential as there would be significant number of passengers who rush at the last moment and every second becomes precious. Even busy Railway stations with high traffic density like Secunderabad station have direct entry to the Railway station and there is no reason why the entry point at Visakhapatnam should stand closed. Traffic planning should be done keeping the priorities in mind rather than inconveniencing the public at large. O. Srinivas Visakhapatnam ‘Power’ bluesThe ongoing impasse for almost a year over giving power supply to nearly 200 apartment/group houses is rather distressing and shameful plight in a civilised society which should be condemned in strongest terms irrespective of its cause. Where is specific GO stipulating issue of Occupancy Certificates to the builders for obtaining power supply to apartments/group houses constructed by them, are not the authorities concerned in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) duty-bound to inspect the constructions to check deviations from approved plans? The deviations now noticed after fully completing the construction are primarily attributable to the failure on the part of the GVMC authorities. Had they discharged their duty, the present situation would not have arisen. It is unfair to make flat owners scapegoats for no fault of theirs. In view of the serious situation, the authorities should explore ways and means to overcome the impasse and help the public. K. Subba Rao Visakhapatnam © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
