CHENNAI: Allies of the DMK have assured participation and support to the Democratic Progressive Alliance’s (DPA) day-long hunger strike to be held in Chennai and other parts of the State on Monday, seeking a favourable decision on the Sethusamudram project. A press release issued by PMK president G.K. Mani said party’s founder S. Ramadoss and other members would participate in the hunger strike. He urged Members of the Legislative Assembly and other offers bearers to take part in the strike. A release issued by CPI state secretary T. Pandian said political parties should meet and discuss ways to initiate amendments in law that would enable parties to protest in a manner of their choice, without intervention from the judiciary. CPI (M) state secretary N. Varadarajan asked his party members to participate in the fast. The DMK has urged its cadets and its allies to extend their cooperation to ensure a peaceful and law-abiding hunger strike. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
