CHENNAI: The fifth edition of the IIT Madras Open Quiz will be held on Tuesday. The quiz will be ‘creative, well-researched and immensely entertaining’, the organisers promise. They also hope to revolutionise quizzing by introducing innovative formats and questions through the event, according to a press release. The annual event attracts quiz buffs from across the country — the fourth edition attracted over 1,400 quizzers. The number is expected to cross 2,000 this year. Special efforts are being taken this year to improve participation from Chennai. Members of the Quizzing Foundation of India and other quizzing societies have been enthusiastic participants so far, the release said. Participants compete for the prize money of Rs.85,000. Team size is limited to four but there are no restrictions on age, profession and other factors. There are special prizes for best corporate team, school team and all-female team. The quiz would be held at the Student Activities Centre in the IIT-Madras campus. It would commence with an hour-long preliminary round. Those interested in participating do not have to register and only have to ensure they participate in the preliminary round. The final round is expected to conclude late in the evening.
