Spurious liquor seized

CHENNAI: Police on Sunday arrested two persons on charges of possessing bottles of spurious liquor, excise labels, stickers, bottle caps and a few raw materials.

The seizure was valued at about Rs 4 lakh.

Following a tip-off that spurious liquor was being brought into the city for sale from Puducherry, a special police team was formed .

The team secured Sakti alias Saktivel of Ariyapalayam, Puducherry.

The police also seized fake liquor bottles, excise labels and a two-wheeler.

Based on his confession, the police intercepted a private tourist car entering the city from Puducherry, near the Guindy BSNL office, on Saturday evening. While the car driver escaped from the scene, the police arrested M.Ramkumar (44) alias Reddy of Selva Nagar in Villiyanoor, Puducherry.

According to a press release, the police seized 55 fake liquor bottles and 10,000 bottle caps, among other materials. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Ramkumar procured them from Karnataka and mixed Puducherry arrack.
