Water released from Gomukhi dam

VILLUPURAM: Collector Brajendra Navnit released water from the Gomukhi dam for irrigation on Wednesday.

The storage level stood at 262 million cubic feet (mcft) as against the full capacity of 561 mcft.

Water release has been divided into two streams – 50 mcft for the new areas covering 5,000 acres and 60 mcft for the existing ayacut stretching over 5,800 acres. The quantum of release will be sustained at the same level for the next 15 days and then increased to 100 mcft and 120 mcft respectively, Mr. Navnit said. MLAs T. Udhayasuryan and A. Angayarkanni were present.

For panchayat chiefs

Later, the Collector attended the seminar organised at Kallakurichi to familiarise panchayat presidents on the new procedures to be followed on the maintenance of accounts of the local bodies. In all 210 panchayat chiefs from Chinna Salem, Kallakurichi, Thiagadurgam, Kalvarayan Hills, Rishivandhiyam and Sankarapuram blocks attended the seminar.

They were taught how to maintain the accounts, including that of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
