DEHRA DUN: A team of magistrates conducted a surprise inspection of various offices in the heart of the city over the weekend and found 103 officials missing from their duty posts. Most of the absentees were in the Water and Power Supply Departments and the Public Works Department and orders have been issued to deduct one day’s salary as a mild punishment, said the District Magistrate, Rakesh Kumar. Mr. Kumar wanted the employees to work efficiently as the Chief Minister had called for quality work and rapid disposal of public grievances. It has been noticed that a large number of employees, including senior officials, stay away from their offices resulting in serious problems for the people who come from far-off places to get their problems solved. Commenting on the disciplinary action taken in Dehra Dun, a senior official said similar inspections would be conducted in all districts of the State in the coming days. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
