LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party will launch an agitation in protest against the Mayawati government’s “move to file criminal cases against its senior leaders” in the police recruitment case. Chief Minister Mayawati has appointed a three-member committee headed by the Chief Secretary to probe alleged corruption in the recruitment of constables during 2005-2006. The SP will stage a demonstration at all tehsil headquarters on October 15 and a State-level rally here on October 24. Addressing a press conference on Saturday, senior leaders Ram Gobind Chaudhary and Bhagwati Singh condemned the allegations made by the head of the inquiry committee, Additional Director General Shailaja Kant Misra. Mr. Chaudhary said the police official had made the charges to hide his shortcomings. Mr. Misra had submitted a “doctored report of irregularities” in the recruitment process. He said the government was misusing public money for building memorials to BSP icons. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
