Pulse polio final round launched

Door-to-door survey to be conducted

Kakinada: East Godavari Collector M. Subrahmanyam launched the final round of the pulse polio programme by administering polio drops to children at the urban health centre in Recherlapet area here on Sunday.

Though there was awareness among a majority of people about polio, because of a few negligent parents, incidence of polio was reported in some parts of the district, the Collector said.

Special teams

He said strict instructions were given to volunteers to ensure total coverage of the eligible children. After administering polio drops, he said, the next three days the special teams consisting of health workers and anganwadi workers would conduct door-to-door survey and cover the left over, if any.

Mr. Subrahmanyam said that 4,250 special teams were constituted to conduct a door-to-door survey and administer polio drops to the leftover children.

Polio vaccine was being administered through 3,351 polio booths to ensure total coverage of 5,78,652 eligible children.

He said every effort was being made to make the programme a total success involving the staff of medical and health, woman and child welfare departments, besides the members of woman self-help groups and voluntary organisations.

Mutha Gopalakrishna, MLA, who also administered polio drops to children on the occasion, called upon people to cooperate with the government in eradicating the dreaded virus and make the district free from polio disease.

Special drive

VIZIANAGARAM: Collector B. Kishore launched the special mop-up pulse polio immunisation programme by administering drops to a child at a booth at Duppada village, near here.

He said 2.64 lakh children in the district were being immunised during the three days.
