HYDERABAD: Nuziveedu Seeds Ltd and the Retired Indian Council for Agricultural Research Employees Association (RICAREA) together announced that the second M.S. Swaminathan Award for 2006-07 had been conferred on B.S. Prakash, head of dairy cattle physiology division in National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal. Announcing this here on Sunday, selection committee chairman M.V.Rao, who was former special director-general of ICAR and former vice-chancellor of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University, said that Dr. Prakash had done distinguished service in the field of cattle research. His work on reproductive physiology in buffaloes would impact society in terms of enhanced milk production and conception rate among buffaloes. A team of scientists scrutinised 34 nominations, including 22 from scientists in agricultural sciences, two from agricultural engineering, four from animal sciences, five from fisheries and one from home science categories. The award would carry a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh, a gold medal and a citation and would be presented at a function here on November 4. Dr. Swaminathan would preside over the function. RICAREA and Nuziveedu Seeds would bring out a souvenir with the theme ‘Agriculture for tomorrow: catering to the needs of underprivileged classes’ marking the function. President of RICAREA K.
