Sri Lankan film festival opens on October 12

Shows will be held at the Film Chamber theatre at 6.15 p.m

CHENNAI: The Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission in Chennai, in association with the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka and the Madras Film Society, will organise a Sri Lankan film festival at the Film Chamber theatre.

P.M. Amza, Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner in Southern India, will inaugurate the festival at 6.30 p.m. on October 12. Actor Radhikaa Sarathkumar and representatives of the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka will be the guests for the event.

The film ‘Anantha Rathriya’, to be screened first, is based on a Russian novel by Leo Tolstoy.

The film ‘Sankaranthi’ features a story revolving around a primatologist, his young wife and assistant.

This is followed by a love story ‘Anjalika’, in which Tamil actor Pooja plays the female lead opposite Sri Lankan hero and director of the film Channa Perera. Most of the film has been shot in Malaysia.

‘Guerrilla Marketing’ and ‘Aganthukaya’ are from acclaimed Sri Lankan directors Jayantha Chandrasiri and Vasantha Obeyesekere respectively.

Two popular films from Sri Lanka that find place in this festival are ‘Udugan Yamaya’ and ‘Pawaru Walalu’.

On the last day of the festival ‘Purasakmana’ and ‘Tharanaya’ will be screened.

The Madras Film Society is conducting this festival in celebration of its golden jubilee in association with the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission.

All the shows will be held at the Film Chamber theatre at 6.15 p.m. everyday.
