Police and colleges initiate steps to curb ragging

SANGAREDDY: With the freshers beginning their academic stint in professional colleges in the district, the police and a few vigilant college managements have started taking preventive steps to curb ragging by senior students.

While the police is planning to organize a meeting with all college principals under chairmanship of the District Collector by the end of the month, the colleges have completed a round of orientation programmes for the freshers and their parents.

Cautioning the senior students against indulging in ragging the Superintendent of police R.B.Nayak said that already one case was booked in Gajwel after receiving a complaint from first year engineering students.

He said that local police, particularly the sub-inspector and station in-charge have been given the power to visit the colleges to keep a vigil on ragging.

He advised new comers to call any of officer concerned or the SP to complain about ragging.

Explaining the reasons behind zero-ragging record, V.Laxmipathi the principal of Kashipur based DVR college of technology said that strict orders of suspension or even debarring from college have instilled some kind of fear in the first place.

The college has completed a round of meetings with students from all the four years separately.

A “don’t panick” advise has been given to parents and freshers during the parents meet even before the commencement of classes to create a congenial atmosphere between the seniors and juniors.

A forty member anti-ragging squad consisting of teaching and non teaching staff has been formed.

They were given badges so that students could recognize them.

The squad members would be responsible for segregating students in the buses and in the college during the crucial months.
