TDP stages sit-in before civic office

Correspondent

Kakinada: The city unit of Telugu Desam Party staged a novel protest against the ‘failure’ of the municipal corporation in providing basic amenities and also in payment of salaries owing to financial crunch. A large number of TDP workers, led by Vanamadi Venkateswera Rao, former MLA, and Dusarlapudi Ramanaraju, city unit secretary, squatted in front of the municipal office duly locking the main gate. They did not allow either the municipal staff or the public inside for a long time. However, the police intervened and opened the gates.

Later, they went in procession to the Collectorate where they staged a dharna raising slogans denouncing the government for the present state of affairs.

A delegation, led by Venkateswera Rao, called on the DRO and presented a memorandum listing out their demands.
