VIZIANAGARAM: A number of women who were asked to attend counselling for contract ANMs on Saturday staged protest demonstration at the Collectorate after coming to know that the counselling had been postponed indefinitely. The district administration had not sent prior intimation letters, at least through newspapers, to the candidates about cancellation, they lamented. The women, some of them are infirm and pregnant, came from far off places to attend the counselling. Being a second Saturday there was none at the Collectorate to answer them. On receiving information from police, Deputy DM & HO Visveswara Rao came to the Collectorate and informed them that the counselling was cancelled following an order from Commissioner (Family Welfare) and it would be conducted at a later date after receiving guidelines on the number of SC posts to be filled in Pachipenta and Kurupam mandals. The women waited till afternoon and left the place. It may be recalled that 322 candiates from 30 mandals were selected for mandal-level contract ANM posts and they were asked to attend the counselling at the Collectorate at 8 am on October 13 with their original certificates. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
