Rani Devi on fire

NEW DELHI: Rani Devi slammed in seven goals as SGNP Girls SSS, Shahbad defeated Bir Bahadur Singh Sports College, Gorakhpur 17-1 and cruised into the semifinals of the NDMC-Nehru junior girls’ hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Sunday.

The Shahbad school from Haryana comprised members of the squad that won the junior National title recently in Gwalior. Rani Devi continued her goal-scoring spree as she put Shahbad School ahead in the fifth minute. Rani scored the second in the 13th and then struck in the 23rd, 31st, 50th, 55th and 56th minutes to annihilate the Gorakhpur Sports College.

Monika scored four goals while Sandeep Kaur, Meenakshi and Ritu Rani scored two goals apiece. Priya Rai was the sole scorer for Sports College.
