NAGAPATTINAM: Co-optex has fixed a sales target of Rs.61.10 lakh of handloom cloth for 2007 in the district against the sales of Rs.50.15 lakh last year through its three retail depots at Nagapattinam, Mayiladuturai and Sirkazhi in the district. Collector Tenkasi S. Jawahar, who inaugurated the sale of handloom cloth for the Deepavali season at the Co-optex retail showroom here on Friday, said silk saris and handloom material in various designs were being sold in the showroom. Thirty per cent discount was being allowed for silk and handloom goods and 20 per cent for readymade garments and powerloom goods. The Collector said the government staff were being provided loan facility for purchase of handloom cloth at the showroom and appealed to the people to purchase them and help in improving the economic condition of handloom weavers. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
