Around 60 cars participate in rally Notebooks, pencils distributed to underprivileged girls
For a cause: Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Sandeep Rai Rathore flagging off the rally in Chennai on Sunday. — CHENNAI: The contestants of the car rally organised here on Sunday by GRT Hotels and Resorts, in association with HSBC and Rotary Club of Madras, had little to lose as their participation was for a cause — empowering the girl child. Rotary District 3230 governor A.S. Venkatesh flagged off the rally from Radisson GRT on GST Road. Around 60 cars participated in the rally that culminated at GRT Temple Bay Resorts on East Coast Road. Radisson GRT general manager Vikram Cotah, who also took part in the rally, said the proceeds would go towards funding Project Selvi, a project of the Rotary Club of Madras to help underprivileged girl children. The participants, along with the beneficiaries of Project Selvi, who joined the rally as passengers, were later treated to a special lunch at the Temple Bay Resorts. Notebooks, pencils and talcum powders were distributed to underprivileged girls. Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Sandeep Rai Rathore and Chennai airport director Dinesh Kumar participated in the flagging off ceremony. Uma Mohan and her team won the ladies category of the rally, while the team comprising Aditya Agarwal, Madhu Agarwal, Vikram Jalan and Shalini Jalan romped home in the Rotarians category. A team led by Santosh won in the novice category and the team of Lita Srinivasan, V.M. Srinivasan, Shreya and Sharon came first in the open category.
