CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has thanked the Left parties and other constituents of the United Progressive Alliance for successfully resolving an issue that had the negated opposition parties’ “wishful thinking.” In a statement here on Sunday, he said the opposition parties were under the false hope that the Government would soon collapse and the day was not far off when they would come to power. Thanks to the sagacity of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a decision was taken that gladdened the hearts of all people. For this, history would remember both the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson. The Chief Minister said he was happy that the DMK as a constituent of the UPA had played a key role in resolving the issue. He was proud to say that his letters to Dr. Singh and Ms. Sonia Gandhi, their replies and the discussions he had with Left leaders, including Prakash Karat, A. Bardhan, and D. Raja had helped to find the solution. However, he cautioned the people that they should not be under the mistaken impression that communal and reactionary forces would remain inactive after this. They [UPA constituents] had a bounden duty to safeguard the country from these forces. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
