Thakur holds ‘janata darshan’

Bangalore: The Vidhana Soudha here on Monday virtually became a “peoples’ secretariat,” with Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur holding a “janata darshan” for over two hours. Moved by the plight of the hundreds of people, including the old and infirm, queuing outside his chamber, the Governor came out and sat in front of the Cabinet hall to listen to them.

Mr. Thakur has decided to open the majestic Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha to the public from next Monday. He will meet people on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 12.30 p.m and 2 p.m.

The Governor received petitions from over 500 people. By noon, hundreds gathered at the majestic building, the queue snaking along the corridors of the third floor to his chamber. A majority of the grievances related to jobs, house sites, pension, medical allowances and awards.
