Rahul makes surprise visit to AICC office

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: An unannounced visit by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to the party office here on Monday put AICC office-bearers on notice. “A message went across that everybody would have to be alert,” said a senior office-bearer.

Mr Gandhi went round every nook and corner of the premises on 24 Akbar Road, including the canteen and servants’ quarters. He also went to his room, next to that of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Apparently, he has asked for a smaller table to make the room spacious.

Accompanied by senior leader Motilal Vora, who is in charge of administration, Mr. Gandhi sought to know where each of the general secretaries, secretaries and other office-bearers sat. At the Mahila wing, he enquired about the Seva Dal office at 26 Akbar Road. In the media room, he pointed to the few chairs provided there. He was told that there were more in the room occupied by Veerappa Moily, chairman of the Media Committee.

At the reception, Mr. Gandhi said he did not want visitors put to inconvenience by his presence.
