Vijay Kumar takes India to fourth place

China leads with 878 points

Medals will be decided today


Hyderabad: Vijay Kumar’s fine showing propelled India to the fourth position in the precision round of the men’s centre fire pistol team competition of Military World Games shooting championships at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) range here on Tuesday.

The medals will be decided on the morrow with the completion of the duelling round, where the host is expected to do well. Vijay logged an impressive 293, young Hambir Singh was just a point behind, while Pemba Tamang and C.K. Choudhary posted 287 and 286 respectively.

The 872 aggregate of the best three scores placed India behind China (878), Brazil (876) and Korea 873.

In the 50 metre rifle prone for women, India finished 15th. Major Birmati returned the best score of the trio with 582, D.V.S. Laxmi Priya was next with 578 and Suchitra Devi with 571.

The team gold went to China with (1775), followed by Korea (1766) and Ukraine (1765).

The team results: Men: 300m standard rifle three position: 1. Russia 1735 (Konstantin Prikhodchenko 583, Artem Khadzhibekov 580, Nikita Antonov 572); 2. Slovenia 1733 (Rajmond Debevec 581, Robert Markoja 577, Dusan Zisko 575); 3. Austria 1726 (Thomas Farnik 584, Florian Kammerlander 572, Mario Knogler 570).

Women: 50m sport rifle prone: 1. China 1775 (Xiangyan Wan 594, Wen Yin 593, Yi Jiad 588); 2. Korea 1766 (Mi Kyoung Lee 594, Ji Hye Yoo 587, Mi Jin Lee 585); 3. Ukraine 1765 (Natalia Omelianeko 594, Natalia Kalnysh 588, Lesia Leskiv 583).
