The judgment of a Delhi court, convicting 10 policemen for their involvement in the Connaught Place shooting case in 1997, in which two businessmen were killed, should serve as a warning to the law-enforcing agencies. It is hoped that the police will respect the people and create a cordial atmosphere instead of faking encounters. R. Sekar, Angul The conviction of the policemen shows that the rule of law prevails in the country. The prosecution has done a tremendous job by ensuring that justice was done. The people welcome the conviction and hope that the accused are given a punishment that will have a deterrent effect on the police force. Varun Chhachhar, New Delhi © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
