Events to mark birth anniversary

THANJAVUR: The 1,022th ‘Sadhaya Vizha’ birth anniversary of Raja Raja Chola, who built the Big Temple in Thanjavur, will be held at the temple on October 21 and 22, according to chairman of the Sadhaya Vizha celebration committee T. Selvam.

He told presspersons here on Thursday that ‘patti mandram,’ ‘kaviarangam,’ cultural programmes, ‘Thirumurai arangams’ would be held as part of the celebrations. Important programmes include veena recital by E. Gayathri on October 21.

Special abishekams would be performed to Lord Brahadeeswara at the temple on October 22.

The Raja Raja Cholan statue near the temple would be garlanded and Thirumurais would be taken in procession.

A local holiday had been declared by Collector C. Vijayaraj Kumar on October 22 for the district. In lieu November 17 would be a working day.

While government offices and educational institutions would remain closed on October 22, treasury and sub-treasuries would function with skeletal staff.
