Ram triumphs

CHENNAI: BSNL’s Ram S. Krishnan, with 8.5 points, won the Maharaja Agrasen FIDE-rated chess tournament, organised by Chanakya Chess Academy, recently.

In the final round, Ram defeated Shyam Nikil to clinch the title and took home Rs. 20,000. Though R.R. Laxman and Ram were tied with 8.5 points each, the latter emerged triumphant on better progressive score.

Important results (10th round): C.J. Arvind (7.5) drew with R.R. Laxman (8.5); Shyam Nikhil (6.5) lost to Ram S. Krishnan (8.5); G.B. Prakash (7) drew with K.V. Shantharam (7); Ganesh Babu (6.5) lost to Sudhakar Babu (7.5); Praveen Kumar (7) drew with R.A. Pradeep Kumar (7); Hariharan Venkatachalam (7) drew with P. Maheshwaran (7); V.A.V.
