Spreading a message through tableau

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement [SVYM] of H.D. Kote, which participated in this year’s Dasara procession, depicted the issue pertaining to Vitamin A and the problems arising due to its deficiency, and won rave plaudits from the public.

The organisation highlighted that deficiency of Vitamin A would lead to night blindness and other vision problems resulting in total blindness.

Sudhir Nayak of the SVYM said the objective was to highlight the imperatives of focusing on Vitamin A deficiency especially for children aged between nine months and five years. Given the importance of the vitamin, even the State Government has taken up “Vitamin A supplementation” programme targeting children in that age group to meet the minimum dosage requirement, according to Dr. Nayak.

The tableau was given creative touch by students of the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts. It not only brought out the message of breastfeeding, as mother’s milk is rich in Vitamin A, but also had models of children amidst Vitamin A-rich fruits and vegetables.
