BANGALORE: You can now search for any information in and around the city right from your GPRS-enabled mobile phone. GETIT Infoservices Ltd., a leading Yellow Pages player, on Thursday launched its new mobile local search offering. Anyone with a GPRS phone can log on to wap.getit.in to access the service. The service is currently offered free of cost in 40 cities. This facility will soon be extended to all major metros and mini metros. It has been launched in association with Fonemine Inc., a U.S.-based player of WAP-based technology solutions. “The service utilises the best technology available to make the search experience simple, exciting and satisfying,” according to Ramesh Gupta, chairman, GETIT Infoservices Ltd. Users can search for services by keywords in specific areas or cities. For instance, a product search for “sarees” at “M.G. Road, Bangalore” will throw up a dozen results, while a search for “restaurants in Cunningham” gave 17 results. These results can be refined by zones and also by categories. Irrespective of the mobile service provider, the search facility will be available to all mobile phones with GPRS connectivity. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
