Narcotic drugs destroyed

CHENNAI: Narcotic drugs seized by NIB CID of the State police and cases relating to which had been disposed of by courts were destroyed by burning at a private factory at Thenmelpakkam near Singaperumal Koil on Thursday.

A total of 4698.234 kg of ganja, 7.650 kg of brown sugar and 29.8 kg of poppy straw, totally worth Rs.10.5 crore, were incinerated at a private factory, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, NIB CID, Su.Arunachalam, said. For the first time, permission of the Pollution Control Board was obtained for burning the seized material.
