PERAMBALUR: Twenty unemployed youths from the district have been enrolled under the modular employability skill development scheme. They will undergo free short-term training on house-wiring at the Government Industrial Training Institute at Ariyalur near here from Monday. Deputy Speaker of the Assembly V.P. Duraisamy on Friday gave away the admission letters to the youth at a function here to mark the distribution of the fourth phase of unemployment assistance. Cash assistanceHe said that apart from providing cash assistance, the State government had initiated steps for generating employment opportunities. Setting up of a Special Economic Zone and the Jayamkondam Lignite Power Project in the district, for instance, would go a long way in eradicating unemployment in and around the district. Collector Anil Meshram, who presided over the function, said a total of 531 unemployed youths in the district got doles to the tune of Rs.2.38 lakh in the fourth phase of the scheme. With this, the number of beneficiaries had risen to 10,392. Old age pensionMr. Duraisamy also gave away labourers’ welfare assistance to the tune of Rs.93,000 to 24 persons and marriage assistance and old age pension to 60 others. District Revenue Officer P.
