AIIMS faculty up in arms

NEW DELHI: The Faculty Association of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences has demanded immediate repatriation of Deputy Director (Administration) Shailesh Kumar Yadav currently on deputation at the Institute and early appropriate disciplinary action against him.

Senior physicians in their four-page note said: “Yadav is an Indian Police Service officer of Tamil Nadu cadre who had been previously found to be extremely insensitive in discharge his duties as the regional passport officer at Ghaziabad.”

The Faculty is also anguished by the fact that recently their colleagues had received a letter from Mr. Yadav advising them not to attend certain official meetings at AIIMS.

“This obviously does not have the permission of the Director. The Deputy Director (Administration) has no authority to write such letters and in fact giving such instruction to faculty members, all of whom are senior to him in status, position and designation. This is clearly an act of insubordination,” said a senior faculty member at the Institute.

In a letter circulated among senior colleagues, AIIMS Faculty Association president B.K. Khaitan noted: “The Association is deeply anguished to see the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry appoint a person like Mr. Yadav for the Institute.”

“While we should all prepare ourselves to suitably respond and to manifest our protest in every possible lawful manner against these completely unwarranted and illegal orders being passed by the Ministry, we all should also take note that on anearlier occasion a retired police constable was stationed at the Institute and illegally occupied the guest house,” added Dr. Khaitan.
