Garbage heaped at first cross in Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Krishnagiri poses serious health hazard to the residents.

Krishnagiri: The failure of the Krishnagiri municipality in drawing up an effective plan in the collection and disposal of garbage has resulted in waste getting accumulated in residential areas posing a serious health hazard.

With the onset of monsoon, fear of an outbreak of vector-borne diseases looms large due to the prevailing unhygienic conditions lament residents.

With heaps of garbage lying all around there has been no efforts by the Municipality to remove it. The indiscriminate dumping of waste has already polluted the ground water level in Thiruvallurvar Nagar.

The recent rain has only made the situation worse. Though repeated representations have been made to the municipal authorities nothing concrete has emerged till date says R. Govindarajan a resident. Removal of garbage on a daily basis happens very rarely due to shortage of sanitary workers. In addition commercial establishments are dumping the garbage on the roadside instead of handing them over to the garbage collection vehicles. The municipality has not taken steps to implement the door-to-door collection and disposal of garbage.

As a result the sanitary conditions in the town remain very poor. A large number of people are forced to wade through pools of drainage. It is hoped that the municipality would come up with an effective plan in managing the collection and disposal of garbage making the town clean point out sources.
