NAMAKKAL: The district administration has directed the village panchayats that were covered under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT), to repair damaged sports materials in school and community sports centres and purchase new materials if necessary. In a press release, Collector G. Sundaramurthi said that the panchayat administrations could spend a maximum of Rs. 10,000 to repair the damaged sports equipment and purchase new sports materials. The expenditure could be made from the general fund. The Collector instructed the panchayat presidents to ensure quality while taking up repair works. They should also ensure the purchase of quality sports materials. The panchayat administrations should get approval from the members before giving purchase orders. The local bodies could also get sponsorship for buying sports materials. Mr. Sundaramurthi also asked the administrations to make the sports materials easily accessible to the residents. Meanwhile, officials said that the district administration was carrying out a number of development works such as constructing concrete paths, installing sodium vapour lamps, creating sports centres, laying pipelines for drinking water supply, removing silt from temple ponds and ooranis, developing inland fishery, building reading rooms, creating basic amenities in crematorium grounds and renovating village markets under the AGAMT in several villages. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
