Ooty-Mettupalayam road closed

Udhagamandalam: The Mettupalayam-Ooty road was closed on Wednesday after inspection of the 82-year-old bridge near Kallar by the National Highways Authority of India revealed it was in a dilapidated condition.

According to an official press note, three cross girders were eroded and detached from the main girder and it was dangerous to allow traffic. It would take at least a fortnight to strengthen the bridge. Until then traffic would be diverted via Kotagiri. — Special Correspondent
