MADURAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday said he was ready to implement the G.O. declaring Kallar, Maravar and Agamudayar communities as Thevar community provided there was consensus on the issue.

Addressing a gathering after unveiling the statue of Maruthu Pandiars here, he accused the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime of not taking any step to implement the G.O. “There are different views within the three communities in getting united under one roof. If there is consensus among all those concerned, I have no objection in implementing the order.”

The Chief Minister was replying to the demand made by leaders representing various organisations who spoke on the occasion that the three communities be declared Thevar community with a Most Backward Class status. He lauded the efforts taken to establish the statue of Maruthu Pandiars.

Former Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Minister Pon. Muthuramalingam, Velammal Educational Trust founder M.V. Muthuramalingam, Madurai East MLA N. Nanmaran, Tamil scholar Vairamuthu and Ponnambala Adigalar spoke.
