GADAG/HAVERI: Colourful processions marked the Rajyotsava celebrations in Gadag and Haveri districts on Thursday. Hundreds of schoolchildren and members of various organisations, including Stree Shakti self-help groups, took part in the celebrations in both districts. In Gadag, Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Mohsin hoisted the Kannada flag at the district stadium and accepted the guard of honour from police personnel, NCC cadets and Scouts and Guides. Addressing the gathering, he said that the Government was implementing several projects to preserve Kannada culture. Balappa Goswami, N.T. Badiger, Vinayak Bandu and K.L. Angadi were honoured for their contribution in their respective fields. Health kits under the “Madilu” scheme were given to pregnant women. D.R. Patil, MLA, zilla panchayat president Padmavati Telkar, Chief Executive Officer B.F. Patil, Superintendent of Police D. Roopa and Assistant Commissioner C. Shikha were present. In HaveriIn Haveri, Deputy Commissioner P.S. Vastrad hoisted the Kannada flag at the district stadium. He recalled the struggle for unification of the State. Six government officials, including C.P. Mayachari, Assistant Director, Information Department, and C.P. Bellary, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, were honoured with awards. The awards carried a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a memento. Zilla panchayat president Parameshwarappa Megalamani, Superintendent of Police D.
