NEW DELHI: The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party at its monthly meeting convened here on Thursday under the chairmanship of its president Harsh Vardhan demanded that the Delhi Government provide a compensation of Rs.5 lakh to the families of those killed in road accidents. It also sought framing of a safe transport policy and a judicial enquiry into alleged connivance between the Capital’s Blueline bus operators and the Government.

The meeting, attended among others by Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Vijay Kumar Malhotra, BJP national secretary Vijay Goel, Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi, Leader of the MCD House Subhash Arya, former MP Anita Arya and senior leader Mange Ram Garg, expressed concern over the fact that over a hundred people have been killed by Blueline buses so far this year.

They lamented that while these killings went on unabated the Government did nothing to remove these killer buses from the roads and provide the city with a better alternative. They accused the Government of being hand in glove with the bus operators and not taking adequate measures to reduce the deaths in road accidents.

They also demanded that a judicial commission independently probe alleged discrepancies in various departments of the Government. It also urged the Centre to immediately make a special allotment of Rs.25,000 crore to meet the demands of basic amenities in the Capital.

Stating that the Government had completely failed on the issues of power, water, sewerage, sanitation, security, housing, employment, safety of women, law and order, sealing, demolitions, unauthorised colonies, exploitation of ground water, education, health and other matters of public interest, the members said this was the reason why the people of Delhi had routed the Congress in the MCD elections.
