Niraj, Vidya clinch titles

Dindigul: Niraj Kumar of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Vidya Alamelu of Maharishi Vidya Mandhir won the under-17 titles in the boys’ and girls’ sections in the State-level chess tournament, organised by Ananda Chess Academy, here recently.

Final standings: Boys: Under-17: 1. Niraj Kumar 5.5/6; 2. P. Vignesh (KV) 5; 3. K.V. Ram Prasath (Akshya Academy, Palani) 5.

Under-14: 1. Raj Kumar (Devi Matric HSS) 7/7; 2. C. Gowtham (DMHSS) 6; 3. P. Gowtham (SPM Oxford MHSS, Oddanchatram) 5.5.

Good Shepherd to meet Lawrence in final

An all-round performance by Kabir Seth (49 and four for 18) enabled Good Shepherd International School (GSIS) score a 112-run win over Stanes HSS in the semifinal of the NDCA under-17 inter-school tournament for the Azhar Hassan Memorial Rolling Trophy at the Lawrence grounds in Udhagamadalam on Thursday.

In the final, Good Shepherd will take on Lawrence, which defeated St. Joseph’s (Coonoor) by seven runs.

The scores: Semifinals: Good Shepherd IS 233 for six in 40 overs (Jisto Shaji 51 n.o., Kabir Seth 49) bt Stanes 121 (Kabir Seth four for 18); Lawrence 211 for eight in 40 overs (P. Aravind 69) bt St. Joseph’s 204 (K. Karthik 58, E. Parthasarathy 47).

Madurai boys post win

Madurai defeated Nagapattinam 25-14, 25-12 in the boys’ section of the 16th sub-junior inter-district volleyball championshipat the Kamaraj Municipal HSS, Villupuram.
