Don Bosco boys, Mt. Carmel girls emerge winners

KOCHI: Irinjalakuda’s Don Bosco HSS boys and Kottayam’s Mount Carmel girls won the 22nd Fr Francis Sales all-Kerala inter-school basketball tournament at the Rajagiri floodlit basketball stadium here on Thursday.

Kannur’s Cherupushpam (Chandanakampara) was involved in both finals. While the Don Bosco boys, riding on Arjun Krishna’s fine form, won a thriller at 74-61, the Mount Carmel girls won comfortably at 42-16.

Arjun Krishna and Mount Carmel’s Ashey Mathew were adjudged the tournament’s best players.

The results: Boys: Final: Don Bosco 74 (Arjun Krishna 29, Amit Sebastian 22) bt Cherupushpam 61 (Lijo Mathew 18, S. Sudheesh 16).

Semifinals: Don Bosco 55 (Arjun Krishna 13, Sebin Shamsudeen 11) bt St. Thomas (Pala) 33 (P.S. Dileep 17, P.S. Deepak 13); Cherupushpam 56 (Lijo Mathew 11, S. Tinu 10) bt Rajagiri PS (Kalamassery) 26 (Sunith Mathew 10, Shan Issac 10).

Girls: Final: Mount Carmel HSS (Kottayam) 42 (Shija Joseph 10) bt Cherupushpam 16 (Rakhee Sajeevan 10).

Semifinals: Cherupushpam 50 (Rakhi Sajeevan 20, Alfi Sajeevan 15) bt Little Flower (Koratty) 40 (Stincy Davis 12, Tosmy Thomas 10); Mount Carmel w.o. Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara.
