Krithikha in sole lead

CHENNAI: Pon N. Krithikha (Modern SSS, Chennai), with four points in four rounds, emerged the sole leader in the girls’ under-19 category of the CBSE National chess championship here on Thursday.

D.S. Shashank of Jawahar Vidyalaya SSS (Chennai), with four points, is in the lead in the boys’ under-14 category.

Vimalasingaram-Ravindran duo wins

Ms Vimalasingaram and T.M. Ravindran, with 64.05 per cent, won in the North-South direction, while R. Sampathkumar and S. Srinivasan (66.07) took the top spot in the East-West direction in the Madras Gymkhana Club’s monthly open bridge tournament on Wednesday.

Other results: North-South: 2. Ms Nazareth/ Chari (57.74); 3. P.S. Santhanam/ V. Krishnan (55.95).

East-West: 2. L. Subramanian/ D. Vijay (64.52); 3. Ms. Lakshmi Chari/ Ms. Sherien Ryan (64.29).

Don Bosco (Egmore) registers win

Don Bosco (Egmore) beat Velammal (Mogappair) 41-35 in a Fr. C. Wilson Trophy (boys’) match of the SVS inter-school basketball tournament.

In a Fr. Antony Netikat Trophy (girls’) tie, Sherwood Hall defeated Sacred Heart Mat. (Church Park) 28-22.

Girish in final

Girish (RSP) and Prem Prakash (CBA) entered the final of the senior billiards section in the Abirami Mega Mall Tamil Nadu billiards and snooker State-ranking tournament here on Thursday.

Selection trials

SDAT-Tiruvallur District unit will conduct a district-level women’s sports festival team selection trials in the following disciplines: athletics, basketball, hockey, volleyball, handball, kabaddi and kho-kho (on November 5 at Nazreth College of Arts and Science, Avadi) and table tennis and badminton (on November 21 at the Velammal International School, Panchetti).
