German firm’s push to renewable energy

NEW DELHI: Having supplied and installed over 10,000 off-grid solar systems in 250 villages in India, Germany-based renewable energy solutions provider, Conergy, is now ready to make it big in India.

It has decided to pump in 8 million euro into Indian operations in a bid to expand its reach by offering equipment as well as project development solutions.

The company has been present in India since 2005 and has been offering engineering services for project design, construction and other turnkey solutions to commercial clients through its wholly-owned subsidiary SunTechnics Energy Private Ltd.

In India, at present, there are almost 80,000 villages without electricity and 25,000 are out of reach of any public grid.

“Conergy will seek to intensify its presence to corporate as well as retail chains through expanded point-of sales, dealership and distribution network across the country,” Director of Corporate Marketing, Jan Hartzel, said here on Friday during his visit to the Capital.

Mr. Hartzel said rural electrification in India was turning out to be one of the most challenging tasks and Conergy was looking at over 100 per cent growth in India over the next 2-3 years.

“We will be investing around 8 million euro in the first year of expansion. We will raise the numbers accordingly in the coming phases of development,” he said.

The company seeks to offer products for solar, wind, bio-mass, geothermal power plants, as well as engineering, procurement and construction services to potential developers of large green power projects.

The company at present operates through three wholly-owned subsidiaries — Conergy, SunTechnics Energy and Epuron.
