Promises 100 tickets

HYDERABAD: The Lok Satta Party will allocate tickets to at least 100 candidates belonging to the backward classes and to minority communities in the 2009 Assembly elections, according to its national coordinator, Jayaprakash Narayan.

At a press conference here on Saturday, he said this would be in addition to fielding those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Tribes in the 67 reserved constituencies. Wherever public-spirited and credible candidates were available, the party would exceed the number and allocate more seats so that hitherto neglected sections get voice and political power.

Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan said the party would guarantee one-third of the seats to women and also allocate 50 p.c. of the seats to youth below the age of 40 years.

He said LSP was gearing up to bring awareness among people on the ‘anti-people policies and misdeeds of earlier Governments’, he said.
