In trouble: An exhausted Boxer at the All Breed Championship Dog Show being administered oxygen. Intense heat on Sunday at the L.B. Stadium in Hyderabad made the dog breathless and it was immediately put on oxygen. HYDERABAD: She was young and slim, attracting everyone with her gait, while he was barking and announcing his arrival displaying all the muscles. And it was this side of a dog’s life, at the 75th and 76th Platinum Jubilee All Breeds Championship Dog shows organised by the Andhra Pradesh Kennel Club at Lal Bahadur stadium on Sunday. Brooding Great Danes, Boxers, Neopolitan Mastiff, Doberman who stood tall, hairy Pomeranians who strutted their stuff from their master’s lap, teeny weenie pigmy of a dog called a Chihuahua (long coat) with a weight of 75 gms and a height in few inches - all stood by their masters who shouted orders as the show progressed. While, the luckier ones stayed put in air-conditioned portable kennels, others could not bear the humidity and their masters had a tough job in trying to‘cool’ them. A total of 288 dogs spanning 30 breeds took part in the championship evaluated by international judge from Australia, Richard J. Baker and his Indian counterpart C.V. Sudharshan. While, K.S. Nagaraj Setty’s Bulldog was adjudged the first best show in the 75th challenge, K.S Balakrishna Setty’s Kerry Blue Terrier bagged the first best show in the 76th championship. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
