ERODE: The demand for family cards is increasing in the district. At the weekly grievances meeting conducted at the Collectorate on Monday, Collector T. Udhaychandran received many petitions seeking family cards. Every day, the Erode Taluk Supply Officer’s office receives a minimum of 100 applications seeking family cards. It is stated that every week the officials get about 550 applications. The officials said that many applicants living with their parents applied for new cards without deleting their names in the cards owned by the head of the family. Some who had cards in some other taluks also applied for the new ones. Shifting residenceFurther, those owning family cards in a particular area shift their residences to some other ward and still continue to operate the cards from the old addresses. New occupants of the houses also apply for family cards from the same address. It becomes very difficult for the officials to sanction new cards to the applicants. The Collector said that the applications would be verified by a special team and only the genuine applicants would be given cards. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
