The roadside shops also do good business as shirts and trousers are available for cheaper rate and churidars between Rs. 100 and Rs. 300. Watch towerThe textile shops and RKV Road, Brough Road, Jinnah Street, Muthurangam Street and Prakasam Street remain crowded. A police watch tower has been set up in the Old Clock Tower area. In some big textile shops, Closed Circuit television cameras have been installed. Shop keepers say that this has helped prevent thefts inside the shops. There is huge demand for sweets also. Some popular catering units have hired marriage halls and shops in Erode to prepare sweets. The firecracker shop keepers are expecting a sale of Rs. 5 crore this year. Due to heavy crowd in the bazaar, traffic has been diverted from Paneerselvam Park to Market via Clock Tower. RKV Road is closed for traffic. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
