HYDERABAD: Yet another mass transport system has been proposed to ferry pilgrims to Tirumala, abode of Lord Venkateswara, this time a train service from Renigunta. The proposal to lay a railway line to the top of the Seven Hills was discussed at the recent meeting of the Tirumala-Tirupathi Devasthanams Board to meet the ever increasing influx of pilgrims to the famous shrine. The TTD has already addressed a letter to the RITES, a Central undertaking, to conduct a feasibility study to lay the line from Renigunta to Tirumala via Tirupati — a distance of over 35 km. This was disclosed by Endowments Minister J. Ratnakar Rao in the Assembly on Monday in a written reply to D. Rajasekhar (Congress). © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
