NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader M. Karunanidhi for “showering praises” on the slain Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam leader Thamilchelvan. “We take strong exception to the poetic tribute to the LTTE leader ... The people first heard him [Mr. Karunanidhi] use derogatory words against Lord Ram and now he has eulogised a leader of the banned terrorist organisation LTTE. This is dangerous,” BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said here. The silence of the Congress-led UPA on this glaring praise was “all the more reprehensible as the LTTE was responsible for the assassination of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi.” The DMK, the BJP said, was an important ally of the UPA and its members held important Cabinet portfolios. Praise for a functionary of a banned organisation was unacceptable. The Congress must explain its stand. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
