B. Muralidhar Reddy

COLOMBO: Amid pitched battles along the Forward Defence Lines (FDLs) in the north in which several persons were reported killed and injured, newly appointed Head of the Tigers Political Wing B. Nadeson held his first formal meeting with Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Lars Solveberg on Thursday.

In another development, U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Robert O. Blake formally handed over a radar-based maritime surveillance system and several Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) to the Navy in Trincomalee.

The U.S. embassy here said the equipment was provided to assist in equipping and training partner nations to deter global terrorist activity.

Ambassador urged Colombo to pursue a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
