SALEM: Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) along with the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board has undertaken a project to ensure uninterrupted power supply to pumping stations of various water supply schemes at Mettur to ensure steady distribution of drinking water to the district and in the city. Exclusive power lines and transformers are being provided for the operation of these pumping stations maintained by the TWAD Board. At present, power supply to the pumping stations is being given from common lines. This has led to power fluctuations and frequent disruptions, which affect water supply in the district, officials point out. The project will ensure continuous operation of pumping stations. This in turn will help water mangers to provide uniform supply to the residents, TNEB officials say. The Board is carrying out works for an exclusive power line for the Irupali Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) and Rasipuram-Edapadi scheme. Four more schemes, Kadaiyampatti CWSS, Kaveripuram CWSS, P.N.Patti CWSS and Vellalapatti CWSS, will be covered under the project shortly. A sum of Rs. 1.4 crore will be spent, TWAD Board officials say. The plan aims to provide exclusive power lines to the booster stations in the district. . © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
