BANGALORE: In yet another instance that is becoming all too common in the city, a cab driver and his accomplice, on the pretext of giving lift, robbed a software engineer of cash, gold ornaments and a mobile phone in Whitefield police station limits on Sunday night. The police said that around 11.30 p.m., a car driver offered a lift to Zabin Phillip while he was waiting for bus at Marathalli bus stand to reach his house at Gandhipura. After travelling some distance, the driver and his accomplice threatened Mr. Phillip and robbed him of Rs. 1,500 cash and other valuables. The Whitefield police, who have registered a case, do not rule out the possibility of a call centre cab driver being involved in the robbery. MurderedA senior citizen was found murdered in her home in Varthur. The police gave her name as Girijamma (66). They said that Girijamma, a widow, used to live alone in her house, behind Government Junior College, Varthur. The murder came to light when a passer-by noticed the main door ajar. The police suspect that she may have been strangled some time on Sunday night. Girijamma may have been murdered by either a relative or someone she knew over some property dispute, the police said. A case has been registered. SuicidesMonika (23), a young mother and a private company employee, committed suicide by hanging herself at her house at Rose Garden in Neelasandra on Sunday evening. The police said Monika, who was unwell for past few months, left her baby at her parents’ house in the afternoon. Later, she returned home and ended her life. The incident came to light after her husband Alfred returned home from work late in the night. The Ashoknagar police have registered a case. In another incident, Subramani (28), an alcoholic, set himself on fire at his house in Harohalli on Doddaballapur Road on Saturday. He died at a hospital on Sunday night. The Rajanukunte police have registered a case. Run overAn unidentified man aged around 30 was run over by a train near Kengeri on Bangalore-Mysore tracks on Monday morning. The City railway police, who have registered a case, suspect it to be suicide. KilledKenchaiah (37), a pedestrian, was killed on the spot after he was knocked down by a car near Bidadi in Ramanagara district, on Bangalore-Mysore highway on Sunday evening.
